Many of you will be aware that last week the Government launched a sponsorship scheme to receive refugees from the war in Ukraine. The response has been huge and we know that different local groups are trying to assist and coordinate with individual sponsors to support this scheme.
Suffolk has set up a multi-agency task group to coordinate the many requests to host refugees in the county, but the Government guidance and direction on how the scheme will be administered locally has only just been received. It will take a day or two to put this information in place and to share this with sponsors and groups.
Whilst the Joint Emergency Planning Unit is not directly involved with this campaign, we have been asked to publicise a request for individuals and groups looking to support the sponsorship scheme to be patient and to wait until the local guidance is issued. There are many areas where information will be required by both sponsors and those Ukrainians fortunate enough to come to Suffolk e.g. Access to healthcare, schooling, welfare support, etc. This will be forthcoming in the next couple of days. Currently information is available on the Suffolk County Council website:
