ROGATION WALK & COFFEE AND COOKIES

MAY 5th ROGATION WALK & COFFEE AND COOKIES

The first Sunday in May is Rogation Sunday. We are therefore planning Coffee and Cookies with a difference. .

Rogation Sunday is a day set aside to observe a change in the season and to celebrate spring planting. It normally takes the form of a walk round the village stopping at various places to ask God’s blessing on that area. This year at Palgrave we are going to incorporate this with our usual Coffee and Cookies. At 10:00am we are asking the parents to stay with the children, if they can, and instead of Sunday Club we shall be taking a short walk, near the church, stopping at various places to say a prayer and ask for God’s blessing on the village and all who live here as well as asking him to bless the planting for a fruitful harvest. We would love as many people as possible to join us on this short walk and to share with us our usual ‘Coffee and Cookies’ back at the church afterwards at about 10:45am

A meeting of Palgrave Parish Council will be held in the Community Centre, Palgrave at 7.15pm on Thursday 14 February 2013.

District Councils To Help Explain Welfare Reform Changes

Mid Suffolk & Babergh District Councils are holding a series of road shows, with the aim of helping people understand more about the government’s changes to housing and council tax benefit payments, which come into effect in April.

From April 2013, anyone of working age, living in a council or housing association home, deemed bigger than they need, will see a reduction in their housing benefit entitlement. For example, those with one spare bedroom will have their housing benefit cut by 14 per cent, and those with two or more spare bedrooms will face a 25 per cent reduction.

In the summer 2013, there will be a limit on how much benefit can be paid to working age households and in the autumn the Government’s new Universal Credit will be introduced which will replace a number of benefits with a single monthly payment.

Those experiencing cuts to their benefits will have to pay their landlords the difference between their housing benefit and their rent and any shortfall in council tax.

Louise Rawsthorne, the Councils’ Corporate Manager for the Housing Revenue Account, said: “This is the first time we have held road shows to explain welfare reform changes. We want to provide as much help and information as possible, to ensure that people can prepare.

“We have decided to team up with our Tenants’ Forums and the Tenants’ Partnership Bus to visit a series of locations in the next three months, on Saturday mornings. Officers from the Council and tenants will be on hand to explain what the changes will mean.”

“There is no need to make an appointment, just come along for a chat and get some advice about how to manage your money, downsizing to a smaller home and discuss different options for paying your rent.`”

The sessions will run between 9am and 12noon at the following locations:

Saturday 16 February - Magdalen Road Car Park, Hadleigh

Saturday 23 February - Broad Street, Eye

Saturday 2 March - Market Hill, Sudbury

Saturday 9 March - Station Road, Elmswell (near crossing)

Saturday 16 March - The Village Square Car Park, Bildeston

Saturday 23 March - Village Centre, Stradbroke (outside shop)

Saturday 6 April - The Street, Holbrook
